Lemons leave a bitter taste in mouth

In last weeks newsletter we had the following idea.

We are thinking about adding a page to our website called “Lemon Watch”. Basically we will have a map of Melbourne’s inner suburbs, identifying where lemon trees hang over backyard fences. We think it’s genius.

In today’s HeraldSun this appeared below

Thoughts people?

We discussed the idea on 3AW this morning for people with too many lemons to handle, to put them in a basket out the front of their house. Just let us know and we can start creating the LEMON MAP!

LETS GET THE COUNTRY SPIRIT BACK IN INNER CITY MELBOURNE

  • great idea. I’m always short of a lemon and never seem to know where the lemon trees are.

  • I shared a house last year that had an awesome lemon tree. We put a bunch on our letter box with a sign saying TAKE SOME. They were gone in a day.

  • BRING ON FREE LEMONS

  • I wonder if Dick Gross has ever picked a flower garden cos that is “unadulterated unexpurgated theft”.

  • I heard it on the radio today. Chris (i guess thehappiesthour guy) said it wasnt his intention to create a vigilante gang of lemon stealers. CLASSIC

  • when i first move into a new apartment, the first thing i do is look for a lemon tree on the block with overhanging branches… i need it for my gins, and for my fish!

once discovered, i look for an oversized rosemary bush.

i think the idea is genius!

and the new idea of people willingly giving up their lemons, is even better

    waste not want not!

  • I live in friendly Thornbury, and soooo many of our lovely neighbours do this already. Some of them even share the excess of their other fruit trees – apples, apricots, oranges! Yay for Thornbury!

  • A brilliant idea.

We get bags of lemons from the old dear down the road. She can’t pick them and doesn’t like them falling on the ground and rotting…. and she loves the marmalade that the missus makes from the lemons that don’t end up in the gin.

  • Would love some lemons in the Surrey Hills area – Who’s got an overburdened tree? What a lovely idea, excess fruit in bowls along suburban nature strips! to give and get ‘Freebies’ join freecycle.org
It’s a grat way to keep things out of landfill!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to ALL :)
