In an era where Telstra Dome games are sold out before tickets are even for sale, tens of thousands of supporters are opting to watch their beloved teams in pubs which show the games. What are the best places to do this around your area?
OUR TOP 3
1. The London Tavern – Richmond
The meca for footy and cricket lovers, with an unmatched beer garden. Too bad the beer is pretty pricey though.
2. The Rose – Fitzroy
Old Fitzroy Football Club haunt that has a very cosy feel. Also the desired place for West Australians to watch their derby.
3. The Napier – Fitzroy
Their classic front bar is full of memorabilia and with a good selection of craft beers on tap, this is our winter’s night fav.

A few around Collingwood (cos these are the sold out games) are Leinster Arms and Father Flanigans.

I’m pretty sure the London Tavern also has foxtel. City’s best beer garden.

Multiple posts advocating the Peacock Inn on High St @ Northcote might see me as biased towards the place, but as a comfy spot to cheer your team on via Foxtel, this place rates highly!
The staff are also very flexible in accommodating multiple games, so if there is a clash of punters wanting to watch a game on ch 7 / ch 10 at the same time as a game on Foxtel, there are different areas to view your game of choice.
(Oh… and the beer tastes great)

The Joint, on the corner of Swanston and Flinders, has Foxtel and good drink specials as well.

Clifton Hill Hotel has a good lounge area to watch the footy as well

The Vaclause in Swan Street has $10 meals and is a good old fashion sports pub.

The Hawthorn Hotel. 4 Plasmas to choose from sound in the lounge bar and also two big screens!!!

The people who own the Joint, as mentioned above, also own Fluid Oz (corner Elizabeth & A’Beckett St’s, near CBD), and The Exford (corner of Russell & Lt Burke St’s in CBD), both of which are far better than the Joint, but with the same drink specials, and relaxed atmosphere. Also, there is McMahon’s (cnr Hawke & Spencer St’s – with drink specials) and The Railway (right opposite Nth Melbourne Station), which are both in West Melbourne, just outside the CBD. All of these places are sports mad, with plenty of screens, showing every sport possible, AND they’ll change the channel on one of them for you if you happen to not see your game on any of the screens. Say high from me (Caz) when you go there.

Or even, say Hi, from me. : )

You can not go wrong with the POW for a St Kilda game for the atmosphere. Sundays eagles game was better than being at the game!!!

fuddermonga, no I don’t but a friend of mine does. OK… my multiple posts advocating the Peacock Inn on High St @ Northcote **DOES** see me as biased towards the place

there are quite a few places, if you want a quiet winter pub feel with a big screen the toorak lion is great. some of the pubs mentioned have a great feel like the exford and the joint but i have never seen any drink specials at these pubs. the pow is great and you see the game form all corners of the pub and with the local community and with the option of retiring in the other section of the pub makes it very interesting

The Limerick Arms in South Melbourne has a fabulous feel for sport! The have a couple of plasmas and a big screen, and 2 Foxtel boxes they tell me. Have been watching the Tri-Nations games there and the crowd is great. Good food too.

1. Stag’s Head Hotel – Williamstown
Hidden gem in the residential part of Willy. Cosy front bar with the added bonus of live music after the Sunday twilight games.
2. Rochester Castle Hotel – Fitzroy
Open fire, quality beer, tasty cheap food, good atmosphere.
*No TV At All*
Railway Hotel, South Melbourne
They only bring out the tv’s for the GF. But the owner’s a kook so I’d expect that from him!

The Dan O Connel in Carlton is a classic

The Old Colonial on Brunswick street is great as well. Front bad is old school – pull up a stool – and watch the footy, or you can go out the back and watch it on the big screen. Just don’t call it the OC>

Agree with The London – not fazed about the beer prices as they have Jim Beam cans which keeps me happy…
Also The Richmond Club before the fire was awesome (and apparantly its almost about to re-open???)
The Bridge can also be good if you get a table in the smoking area, plenty of TV’s, good food, and essentially it;s under cover for cold / wet nights…
(clearly I live in Richmond)
